Healthy Hangout: Philosophie Mama’s Sophie Jaffe
We were so excited to chat with Sophie Jaffe, CEO and Founder of Philosophie, who you might also recognize as the face behind @philosophiemama, the popular Instagram handle with 54.4K followers. For good reason, too: Sophie shares inspiring snapshots of her life as a certified Raw Food Nutritionist and Raw Food Chef, yoga teacher, personal trainer — not to mention, as a mother of two adorable boys.
We love Sophie because she’s just as passionate about delivering true health as we are. From George Clooney to her dad, Sophie has years of creating personalized detox cleanses and superfood products under her belt. And she does it all with a supportive, hands-on approach to make health living simple and accessible.
For Sophie’s philosophy on true health, read our interview with her below.
How did your path to a balanced healthy lifestyle start?
In college, I developed really negative eating habits. Suddenly what once nourished me became a stressor and an enemy. I began working at a juice bar when I was 20, discovered the healing power of raw foods, and never looked back.
For people looking to make healthy life changes, what’s your best advice?
Baby steps. Start replacing that soda with a green juice, try adding matcha to your morning routine instead of coffee, add kale to your salad, etc. Making small changes really adds up. If you keep adding the nutrient dense foods that your body craves, you won’t even want to eat unhealthy foods anymore.
We know you love juice as much as us. What made you a juice believer?
I love juice because it’s a fantastic way to get a huge dose of raw goodness. With juicing, you can still get the benefits of eating a whole bunch of kale and a cucumber simply by drinking one juice.
What does true health mean to you?
Health is an equilibrium of body, mind, and spirit. Eating healthy is one (very important) component of overall health. Your physical health, your mental health, your relationships…are all what makes up true health.
In your opinion, what are the most common misconceptions about health?
That it’s not easy to eat healthy, which is completely false. Once you develop a system, routine, and rhythm, it becomes second nature.
Long stressful days are inevitable. What’s your favorite way to unwind and refocus?
Getting back to my breath. Breath is the link that connects all the moments in my life into one. From leading yoga classes to workout classes to responding to stressful situations, breathing united all the small moments into my reality, keeping me centered and connected to my ultimate truth.
Your favorite snack?
My coconut butters!
Your favorite Juicero juice?
I love Greens one because it gives me all of the green goodness without any added fruit sugar!
